New York Charity Event to Help Fight Leukemia and Lymphoma

Posted by Mom at 5:51pm in Announcements

This post is my first meme – it’s not always about Me Me ;)

Next Monday, October 15th, Internet Marketers of New York is hosting a charity party to help The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It is being held the night before SMX Social Media Expo.

Marty from Aim Clear Blog is a Stage 3B Lymphoma survivor, and is helping spread the word of this event.

Marty writes:

Never Thought I’d Use aimClearBlog for This
2 years ago I had one hell of a fight on my hands. 7 months of intensive chemo, 3 weeks of radiation, and 18 months later I remain in “first partial remission” with a good prognosis for long term survival. I’m one of the lucky ones. Please help publicize this event by attending, donating, or passing along meme link love. THANK YOU!

If you don’t live close enough to make the party in New York, you can still participate by making a donation online.

Thank you to Dana and YC for making me aware of this event. To help spread the news of this worthy cause, I am tagging Laura, Michael, and Christine.

Mom’s Comings and Goings

Posted by Mom at 12:43pm in Announcements

I’m approaching the 2 year mark on my Ulnar Transposition surgery and I thought about my neglected website and how I haven’t blogged in ages. Maybe I’ll post another arm pic next week to compare.

I have a love/hate relationship with computers. I love them because my IT career is based on them, but after a long day slaving over a hot Centrino Duo, sometimes the last thing I feel like doing is going online. I start off with good intentions (blogging, posting on my favorite forums, etc.) but then I tend to get busy with homelife, or work projects, and then neglect going online (for pleasure) for weeks on end. It’s not entirely a bad thing, because Dad and the kids benefit from my undivided attention, but I honestly enjoy the time I do get to spend online…and I miss it.

I’m not sure what to do with this blog long-term, since I can’t seem to post more than…oh let me see…once a year! I will leave it as-is for now and reevaluate later.

Here are the updates/major highlights for the year ;)

- In March, we welcomed our sweet baby girl A, who was our first waterbirth – born at home unassisted.

- In July, our oldest daughter suffered from a lung infection and was in the ICU for three days. After a biopsy, we learned that she has a fungal infection and she is slowly recovering with the right meds.

- We spent a glorious week in Cancun, Mexico (all 8 of us) and were spoiled and pampered!

- Work is work…but at least Mom is home! The second half of ’07 has proved to be extremely busy for me project-wise, and I’m learning how to balance my work life with a new baby.

No promises, but maybe I’ll post again before the year is out! :)

Mom’s Been Gone a Long Time

Posted by Mom at 3:37pm in Announcements, Family

What does one do when they’ve neglected their blog for a very long time? I feel the need to delete everything and start over. However, even though my posts are few, it would be a shame to erase some of my thoughts from the last two years.

I will leave it all and do my best to continue where I left off.

Ah…December was a crazy month for our family. My mother was stricken with a mystery illness which left her unable to move and full of pain. She was hospitalized on and off until a wonderful Rheumatologist diagnosed her condition: Polymyalgia Rheumatica. She is taking oral prednisone for the next two years and is doing great.

We found out I was pregnant again on Christmas Eve! After 18 long months of trying and teetering on a diagnosis of “unexplained secondary infertility” my doctor decided to order an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) to rule out any problems after my D&C in June 2004. Everything was clear. We got pregnant the same cycle. Due Date = September 6, 2006

The New Year came and went and let’s fast forward to March. March 9th we heard the baby’s heartbeat via doppler. March 11th I was not feeling well and had some gas type cramping. After that unpleasantness passed, we tried to listen to the baby. We couldn’t find her heartbeat.

On March 13th my doctor confirmed via ultrasound that our precious little girl had died sometime around Sat. the 11th.

We were 15 weeks pregnant. We have been grieving the loss of our sweet Sarah.

We decided to undergo testing for RPL (Recurrent Pregnancy Loss) and finally found that I have developed an autoimmune disorder that can cause blood clots to form in the baby’s placenta, hence cutting off the oxygen supply to the baby.

We went on vacation to Florida and found out I was pregnant again. I am taking Lovenox injections and baby aspirin that will hopefully prevent another tragic loss. I am due at the end of February and so far all is well.

There is SO much to update on the work front. I will do that shortly in a separate post.

Ah…Mom is back to blogging! :)
