Tara,

Yes...you are right...we have 1/3 the amount of children! It is different.

I read that Michelle schedules the one on one time with her kids. We also do this, but informally. Sometimes I look back on the week and realize that I spent more alone time with one child than another, so I mentally note that and carve out time when I can. Simple things like taking a walk together, reading a book, etc. I imagine this would be hard with 18.

Each family has their own unique dynamic...and the Duggar's are conservative Christian who have a heart for serving the Lord. They are open to having as many children as the Lord allows, and are raising them according to the biblical standards they believe in.

I respect them for that.

I'm not sure I could handle that many children (I would need some major retraining in the areas of organization!)

Frank and I also read that Michelle has her real estate license.

Do you think she is a work at home mom too?

Hi Maura,
There is a huge difference in 6 kids and 18! I have 4 of my own and would love one more. I think a parent needs to decide when enough is enough when he or she has to have the other children be mini-parents to help her keep up with everyone.

When you have 17 children it is IMPOSSIBLE for any one child to get any attention from mom alone. There is not enough time in the day for one woman to spread herself among that many kids. Can you tell me any time you have saw mom and dad with any 1 on 1 time with the kids?

The issue I have with that family is, the children have way to many responsibilities to be kids themselves. I do not think the "Buddy System" is fair, and to be real honest if I was a 15 year old girl I would want to get out with my friends doing things that other 15 year olds do. Not babysitting or doing chores because my mom has so many kids she can not keep up with them herself.

My other reason (some many find silly) is I can not stand how her girls are forced to dress. I am sure no teen girl wants to walk around in 1920 style dresses. I know why she makes their clothing, becuase she can make it so cheap, but again, it just seems like to me her kids have to suffer because there are to many to afford buying clothing for.

Her boys are forced to wear shoes that are second-hand from thrift stores, I know this because I saw a show where they were at the thrift store and Jim Bob said they always buy the kids shoes from there and they never buy anything new.

I am sorry, but I like my kids to be dressed nice and also want my kids to be KIDS. If I could not afford to give my children the best, I would not have any more. I like to be able to eat good meals and not have to cook the cheapest I can cook because I have such a large family to feed.

I am not frugal by any means, I like to spoil my children and if I were at a point where I was forced to make my children suffer, I would have my tubes tied!

Not to mention, how in the world, could they afford college for 17 or 18 kids?

Hi Tara...thanks for stopping by.

Who decides when enough is enough? We have six and are open to the possibility of having another.

What is it about the Duggar children that makes you feel sorry for them?

I am not so sure it is such a great thing. Now, every baby is a miracle, however when is enough enough?

I just can not seem to jump into that family and fall in love, I actually feel sorry for the Dugger children.
