Now that I’ve been working at home the past 16 months, I’ve come to realize the benefits the WAH lifestyle provides me and my family. There are so many little things that come to mind…like working outside on the patio while enjoying a beautiful day, or wandering through the “office” barefoot without my co-workers looking at me funny.

Here, I’ve listed the big benefits:

1. More Time With The Kids

This is the most important reason for me. For years, I worked outside of the home and really struggled trying to balance my work and home life. There were times that I only saw my children for an hour at dinnertime, and then it was time for bed! Now that I work at home, I’m there every morning when they wake up, we eat breakfast together, lunchtime is spent together - we even have picnics at the park, and they know that I am always here.

2. More Time In The Day

When I worked outside the home, I wasted many hours in my car just traveling to and from work. For two years, I commuted to a job that was 90 minutes from my home. That was 3 hours a day, or 15 hours a week spent in my car! What an incredible amount of time wasted when I could have been at home with my family. Working at home has reduced my commute time to ZERO. I literally walk 30 seconds to my desk and open my laptop. I now have more time to dedicate to my family and hobbies.

3. Working At Home Provides More Flexibility

When you have children or commitments outside the home, working a full-time job away can make it difficult to schedule appointments when you are gone during prime business hours, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Isn’t it frustrating when making a dental or medical appointment to find only daytime/weekday hours available? That means having to arrange time off with your employer. Working at home provides more flexibility in your schedule. I make those appointments and then just resume working when I return or later in the evening.

4. Working At Home Makes Way For A Simpler Lifestyle

As I mentioned in reason #1, there is no commute for those who work at home. Not only does this save time, but also saves money. Since our commute time is reduced to ZERO, the savings on gasoline and car maintenance are tremendous! Some families (where one parent works at home) are also one-car households!

As a WAHM, I no longer have to dress up for work. I have simplified my wardrobe to include comfortable yet stylish clothing that does not require dry cleaning, saving time and money as well.

Now that I have more time and a flexible schedule, I am able to plan and prepare healthy meals at home. This saves BIG money by not wondering “what’s for dinner” and then resorting to take-out food.

5. Virtually Unlimited Earning Potential

Depending on what you do, there is no cap on the amount of money you can make working at home. As I research work at home business ideas and opportunities, I am finding that many work at home moms are involved with online and offline businesses that generate multiple streams of income. Who says you’re limited to only doing one thing?
