I was also looking for help on a resignation letter while on maternity leave. This can be sticky if you intended to return (and used benefits for the birth!).

I didn't find anything online, so I just winged it. This is what I said:

With regret, I submit my resignation as Blah Blah effective immediately. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work at Blah Corp., but after experiencing the joy of being home with my new son, I have decided to stay home with him full-time. If a part-time position ever becomes available, I would love to work with Blah Corp in the future.

I deeply appreciate the skills I have gained and the friendships I have made here. I feel that the work done at Blah Corp. is crucial and I am glad I have been a part of it.

Since I planned carefully for a long maternity leave, I don’t anticipate there being much difficulty in this transition. However, I would be happy to help with the transition in any way I can. Feel free to contact me for any reason.

Sincerely,

Mom

{{I did try to work out returning for just a few hours a week at my job, but they needed someone full time and aren't certain they have the budget for part-time. This is fine with me, as I was uncertain about whether I REALLY wanted to work a few hours a week}}

I hope this helps someone! I am still unsure about whether they will ask me to repay the money the company paid for my benefits during my leave. They are leagally able to do that--but realisticlly never do. My fingers are crossed!

Any thoughts on a resignation letter for while you are still on maternity leave? I had every intention on returning to work, but my little boy has changed my world more than I could have ever imagined. There is no way that I can go back to work now. My husband and I have worked out all the financial aspects and now I just have to break the news to my employer. I am due to go back November 16th and I would like to inform them ASAP so they can have time to fill my position. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the letter ideas! Just recently I came to the realization that I needed to stay home and that it WAS something that was manageable...with a budget.
